What is Solid State Deluxe?
Solid State Deluxe is a conceptual groove thing, a dee-jay service, a kinky fetish, a virtual sound system...
I have a Podcast and I spin at clubs, parties, & other events around Honolulu. I go by the name Joey Baggs and I've been deejaying for about 19 years - since I was 14. I grew up in a racially mixed part of central California called Santa Maria, where lowriders, soul & hip-hop, breakdancin' & poplockin', and Chicano & Black American pop culture were everywhere. My pops was a heavy fan of classic & psychedelic rock, Motown & funk, and boogie & blues, among others. From as early as 8 years old I got to collecting soul and hip-hop records, mixing clips & tapes (w/ghetto blaster lo-fi technology!), while breakin' and skateboarding. Thus I came to develop a love of good music. Since I still crave good mixes, I now make my own...
Solid State Deluxe began as a weekly show on the University of Hawai`i - Manoa's college radio station, 90.3 FM, KTUH, Honolulu: "Hawai`i's Only Alternative". KTUH is one of only a handful of college radio stations entirely operated by volunteer students, rotating DJs/shows in 3-hour intervals, 24 hours a day. The station has been on the air for over 35 years broadcasting throughout most of O`ahu. Solid State Deluxe aired for over six years on Friday nights from 9pm to midnight, Hawai`i time, with selector & host, Joey Baggs (aka Cookiehead Jenkins): spinning a soundtrack for the struggle, music for you mind, and bump for your trunk. The show is now available exclusively on the internet. Subscribe to the free podcast at www.solidstatedeluxe.podOmatic.com. Podcast:
